Hulu on Apple Tv
According to a report by 9 to 5 Mac an integrated Hulu / Hulu Plus app for Apple TV has been ready for a while, but is yet to be released.
Are the rumors true? Is Apple afraid of Hulu and Hulu Plus Members? Whether they are or not Apple still has yet to launch Hulu and/or Hulu Plus on the Apple TV. This is leaving many iOS users confused, being that Hulu / Hulu Plus apps are and have been available on their iOS devices.
The rumors pointing to fear are based on potential lost revenues from Apple iTunes. Hulu / Hulu Plus being offered on the Apple TV could take business from Apple’s show and movie revenue on iTunes. Also with the release of Apple’s iCloud (free cloud service offered by Apple) iTune users are now able to view past purchases on their Apple TVs.
Some argue Apple’s fear is misplaced being that Netflix is offered with Apple TV out of box. Though Netflix does offer many TV shows via live stream it does not offer recent or current TV shows. While on the other hand iTunes and Hulu / Hulu Plus do offer more current TV shows. Thus concluding Netflix does not compete with iTunes the same way Hulu / Hulu Plus does.
Apple has also taken steps to ensure Hulu / Hulu Plus can not be played on the Apple TV. IOS users with HDMI adapter cables are not allowed to play Hulu / Hulu Plus on their TV or Apple TV’s. Apple has also made it so Apple Airplay cannot mirror Hulu / Hulu Plus through the Apple TV.
Moreover, some place there bets on yet another factor. Hulu / Hulu Plus owners: Disney, Comcast, Providence Equality Partners, and News Corp recently tried selling Hulu / Hulu Plus. One of the bidders for Hulu / Hulu Plus was Apple rival Google. Though Hulu / Hulu Plus was never sold, Apple may be biding time to ensure Hulu / Hulu Plus does not fall into the hands of their biggest rival.
